The Road to Being Published

It’s Wednesday, so it’s time for another update.

I’ve done so much this week! I’m getting a lot better at this whole commitment thing. 🙂

Days of the Kill is still on hold, unfortunately. I can fix the pages some, and I can edit the first two pages based off of the free sample edits, but…meh. I’m still saving up to go further than the free sample.

The Path to Biological is going well. I’m getting so close to the end of the third draft! I’m not really looking forward to what’s waiting for me in the fourth draft, but…I guess I kind of asked for it when I picked such a difficult plot to write about during the month of November…you know what that means.

The Child of Fault is still on hold. I’m taking a month off from it so I can just get my mind away from it for a while. I still think of some of the things that I could have done better, but that’s what editing is for. I’ll take care of some of the more obvious things in the second draft.

Bethany’s Corpse is going really well! I have just over 11,000 words already. I don’t remember the last time I’ve gotten so far in just a short time. Well, except for maybe November.

Nah, not even then.

I’m really excited about how far I’ve come this week. Hopefully next week, I’ll have even more to report! We’ll see…my oldest niece is visiting this weekend. That may make writing a little difficult.

Well, I guess that’s about it for this week. Until then…stay tuned!

Algebra the Evil

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always struggled with any kind of math. It can be Geometry, it can be Algebra…it can be anything.

My struggle really started when I was in seventh grade (right after I got my wisdom teeth pulled…I always joke about it not being a coincidence!). Ever since then, I’ve struggled to pass, and it was a long road, let me tell you.

In my junior year of high school, we were studying the quadratic formula in Algebra 2. I didn’t understand it at all. So, of course, someone thought it would be a good idea for me to do practice problems…during Christmas break. Um…say what?

So, I did them, even though that was the last thing I wanted to do. I remember it was the day before I had to go back. I kept getting them wrong, and eventually I became so frustrated, that I just shut down completely for several hours. Nobody could get a single word out of me. It was my phone getting taken away that caused me to break…yeah, I don’t understand that part either.

I ended up dropping out of high school for a semester. Well, I say “dropped out,” but I was doing some schooling. It was online, so I didn’t have to deal with everyone in high school.

I graduated on time…just so we’re clear.

Now, I’m studying the quadratic formula again in college, and let me tell you, memories are flooding back. It was my undoing in high school…it may be my undoing in college, but I’m going to try to not let that happen.

Luckily, I do have some people that can help me now. I have an Algebra tutor that I meet with on Saturdays (well…sometimes. When I’m not doing anything else). He does Algebra for fun…the freak. I also have a friend that unfortunately lives all the way on the other side of the world. He says it’s a good refresher…so I may just have to bombard him (even though I promised to try to not!).

Algebra is evil, just pure and simple. I’ll be glad when I’m done with it for good.

Okay, I’m done ranting for now. Until Wednesday…stay tuned!

The Road to Being Published

Another Wednesday, another update. I have to admit, I love these. 🙂

I’ve done so much this week! I’m actually proud of how far I’ve come in just a week. It seems like leaps and bounds have happened.

Days of the Kill is still on hold, unfortunately, because I’m still saving up for the editor that I want. I’m hoping I’ll have enough saved up by the end of July, or at least the beginning of August. Things will go so much faster once I have that money saved up. Hurry up, payday.

The Path to Biological is looking better and better all the time, and I’m actually almost done with the third draft! Finally…it’s been long enough. I have about 30 pages left, I believe. And the best thing is that I don’t think I have anything to do on Saturday, so I can write and edit the whole day. Yay! 🙂

The Child of Fault is officially done! Well, the first draft, anyway. Seems like I’ve been on that first draft for forever. I was so glad to finish with it. My readers are going to hate me for it, though…you’ll know why when you read it. 😉 Let’s just say there’s going to be a sequel. Anyway, that’s going on hold for a month. Time to step away.

I’m excited to announce that I’m starting a new book! Bethany’s Corpse is officially underway. I started it on Sunday, and I already have just over 4,000 words written. I’m hoping to write at least 1,000 a day. More if I have time. I love the progress I’m already making on it!

I guess that’s about it for this week. Next week, maybe I’ll have even more to report!

Until then…stay tuned!

Starting a New Story

I couldn’t help myself yesterday. I had time to edit, so I edited. I had time to start a new manuscript…

And so I did.

Pretty crazy, isn’t it? Now I’m working on four manuscripts at once… Say what?

If I’m being honest, I love the feel of starting a new manuscript. It’s like something that can’t be described. It’s a new feeling. It’s the wonder of what’s going to happen. It’s the wonder of…a new adventure.

Yes, a new adventure. That’s what a story is, isn’t it? An adventure? A lot of times I don’t know what’s going to happen with the story until I get there… I always love finding out.

I know this will be an absolutely crappy first draft, but hey, I’m okay with that. I will feel amazing after I get the first draft done, even if it means I have a crap load of editing to do after it.

I really look forward to seeing how this new draft turns out. I can’t wait to see how this book ends! It may turn into a sequel like the other three are turning out to be…dear gosh, I kind of hope not. It’s a case, and I don’t want this case dragging out into two books.

Bethany’s Corpse is officially under way. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I intend to find out. One thing’s for sure: I feel like the potential for many things can happen in this book.

The Road to Being Published

It’s Wednesday again, so it’s time for another update.

I’ve done a little more than usual this week! Not as much as I was hoping, but at least I’ve done more.

Days of the Kill is still on hold, because I’m still waiting to be able to afford the editor that I want. Slowly but surely seeing the money in the bank rise. It goes so much slower when you only get paid every other week. Oh, well. At least I know that it’s slowly getting there.

The Path to Biological I’m finally seeing progress in. I have less than 100 pages to go in the third draft! Once I hit the fourth draft, I’ll still have a long way to go. I may have to do more than four drafts before I reach out for the beta readers. I sure did a fine job at picking a difficult plot!

The Child of Fault is finally making progress! I got just over 4,000 words done this week, and I am so happy about that. I’m still behind what I said I was going to do…but I’m definitely getting there. I think I’m getting close to the end. It’s a shame to see it end, but I’m so ready to be done with the first draft! After I get done with the first draft, I can start on yet another project. 🙂

Well, I know it’s a shorter post this week, but I think that about does it. I’m more excited about my progress than I have been in a long time.

Until next week…stay tuned!

Three Months Later

This is a bit late, but I didn’t have a chance to post all weekend. My nephew turned three months old on Saturday. It’s so hard to believe three months have gone by! I still remember when I held him in the hospital like it was yesterday.

He’s grown so much in the past three months, it’s crazy. I don’t get to see him as often as I would like, but he still likes to smile at me! I haven’t gotten a good picture of him smiling, but he does. He was smiling at me before I got him out of the car seat last night when my parents and I met up with my sister and her family.

I was telling my brother-in-law last night that since he likes to eat, just wait until he’s a teenager. That’s when it dawned on me — all three will be teenagers before we know it! Oh, jeez… No, no, no! Slow down, time!

My nephew has gotten so big in the past three months. He’s definitely not the little tiny thing you see in the picture above. He can actually hold his head up now!

Well, I guess I’m done going insane about how fast time has gone by for now. Until Wednesday, why don’t you look at his picture and think about how cute he is? 🙂

The Road to Being Published

It’ll be another short post for this Wednesday. I haven’t done much. I’m behind, I know.

Days of the Kill is still on hold. I’m currently struggling to get it not look quite so sloppy, but yeah, it’s slow-going. I’ll be able to afford the editor I really want some day… I get paid on Friday, so yay!

The Path to Biological is still slow-going as well. Four chapters a week out of several doesn’t go by very fast at all. I’ll get done with the third draft eventually. I have no idea when that is, exactly, but eventually.

The Child of Fault is finally back. I’m working on the first draft again… I have to admit, I haven’t done much. The chapters are like two pages each. I don’t regret that decision, but it sure makes it seem like a lot longer. I’m just under 40,000 words in. In fact, I’m so close to that mark that I’ll be saying I’m over 40,000 words by next week!

Like I said, this was definitely a shorter post, but I really haven’t done all that much the past week. Hopefully this week will be more. I’m feeling good about it!

Until Monday…stay tuned!

Do It Right or I’ll Eat Your Lunch!

Okay, so maybe I won’t really eat your lunch if you do it wrong. That was just a really popular saying in middle school with the band director. I was just thinking about it earlier today, so yeah. That’s where that came from.

Plus, I wanted to see if it would get your attention, seeing as I’ll be complaining today… I love Monday’s. 🙂

As you may know, several months ago the first man to be diagnosed with Ebola in the US passed away. Well, his financee wrote a book on how she and her son have been dealing with his passing. It was release the other day.

Well, that’s nice and all, but see, she was interviewed on the local news station since she’s a local resident. She said at one point, “Well, you know, I only did one draft. It only takes one draft anyway, and it was just too hard to even try and go through it again.”

Um…what? I’m sorry, did I hear you right?

No. Just…no.

Writing a book takes a lot of work! Writing, rewriting, editing, spending a ton of money on an editor…everything. Ugh. It’s so frustrating how people think writing a book is easy.

The sad thing is…she’ll probably get sales anyway.

Guys, if you’re really going to write a book like you say, then okay, go for it. I’m all for people putting their foot in the door and writing. That’s what I’m doing. Why do you think I started multiple websites?

But honestly…do it right. Don’t humiliate yourself by only doing one draft. Come on now. That’s just setting yourself up for failure. I don’t want you to do that. I want you to do well. I’m not just concerned about myself, you know. I’m concerned about all writers.

I guess that’ll do it for now. Until Wednesday…stay tuned!
