And So It Begins

I hit the most exciting milestone of my career so far yesterday. I had my first author interview! Feel free to check it out here: https://authorsinterviews.wordpress.com/2015/08/31/here-is-my-interview-with-s-courtney-killian/

I had a blast answering questions and I’m sure my awkward side showed through. I couldn’t believe that it was actually happening. It was even more surreal to be reading it this morning!

I know I could have answered some of the questions better, but it was my first interview. I’ll get better as time goes on, assuming I do more. I hope I do. It was a lot of fun getting any readers of this website to get to know me more.

I guess this interview is the biggest step of my career so far. I don’t know how many interviews I’ll have, or how successful I’ll be, but as long as I have fun, I really don’t care. I’m writing because I love it.

It was a really exciting step, and I can’t wait to see where my career takes me. I will definitely be keeping everyone updated!

The Road to Being Published

It’s Wednesday again, so it’s time to look at how far along I’ve come in my journey to being published. I love these so much. 🙂

I have exciting news this week! I have done so much. Well, more than usual, anyway.

Days of the Kill is still on hold, but not for much longer! I have an editor I can afford (thanks to the publisher that recommended her to me!), and I should be sending my manuscript off to her by the end of this week or the beginning of next week. I’m not really sure which one, but from the sounds of our conversation last week, it should be soon. I’m so excited. Month after month of saving up money is finally over.

The Path to Biological is coming along really well. I edited almost 100 pages in just two days. Can you believe that? I can’t. I haven’t had time to do that…well, ever, I don’t think. Just a few more days, and I should be hunting for beta readers. This is such an exciting time.

The Child of Fault is going slowly. I admit, I haven’t done anything with that since I’ve been on vacation. I’m still in the middle of the second draft. Oh, well. I’ll deal with that once I get my focus off of other things.

Bethany’s Corpse is still on hold as well. I lost track of how long ago I finished the first draft… I’ll get to it when I get to it, I suppose. I haven’t quite decided I know when that’s going to be. At least I know I’ll be looking at it with really fresh eyes.

I mentioned this last week, but I actually have a real shot of being published by the end of the year, or at the beginning of next year. When I got hung up on saving money, I really thought it wasn’t going to be any time soon. But it finally is, and things are finally going my way. I talked to a publisher last week that really wants to take me on, and I couldn’t be more excited!

I’ve done so much this week, and I hope to have even more to report next week. Until then…stay tuned!

Podcasting: Take Two! Or…Something Like That

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that a while back, I decided to start a podcast. Now, I never did get that off the ground. Person after person after person dropped out because they decided they didn’t want to get involved. Either they decided they didn’t want to do something they weren’t paid to do, or they decided they were too busy, or they decided they didn’t even know what a podcast was (those people I really didn’t understand).

A former prospect of a co-host approached me on Google+ today, and said that he was still interested. So, we’re going to try this again. I’m not getting my hopes up too high — at least not yet. I’ll see how this actually goes, and if it actually gets off the ground this time, I will be ecstatic. We’ll just have to see how this actually goes.

I will definitely be looking towards getting it off the ground, and if it does, we will be aiming to start in October. I don’t know when exactly, but I will definitely keep everyone posted.

Well, I guess I rambled on long enough about podcasting for now. On Wednesday, I will definitely be back to talking about my progress. Until then…stay tuned!

The Road to Being Published

It’s Wednesday, so time to take a look at how far I’m getting on being published.

I’ve done so much these past two weeks! Well, at least for one day. As for the other days, I can’t say too much.

Days of the Kill is still on hold due to money issues, but I’m thinking about going for a different editor. One I can actually kind of afford this time. I would have had to save up money for them, but I have to say that I do have the money for them now, so if I like the free sample, I’m definitely going for them.

The Path to Biological is going well. I edited 32 pages just the other day. It felt like I was running a marathon or something for two hours… Still, it was rewarding, and that means I’m just that much closer to beta reader hunting.

The Child of Fault is going slowly. I’m working on it some, but I haven’t put a lot of effort into it. I’m on the second draft, so there’s a lot to be done. Hopefully the next few drafts will be just a tiny bit faster.

Bethany’s Corpse is on hold still. I haven’t quite gone a month without looking at it, so I’m going to use that month up for all it’s worth. Hopefully I don’t go totally crazy from all the horrible mistakes in it!

If you’ve been following me for a while, you may know that I’ve been wanting to self-publish for a while. Well, today on my Facebook author page, there was the owner of an indie publishing company that contacted me and said that we could discuss options. This would be great for me, and I’m so happy that she messaged me. I don’t know if I will go for her publishing company or not, but I can say that I will definitely be giving her a call. I will be able to tell you more about that next week!

Until then…stay tuned!

Time Flies By

Hey all, I apologize for not posting at all last week. I was insanely busy.

I was just realizing how fast time goes by. My niece turns five in just two months. But I guess that wasn’t the main focus on my thoughts about how fast time is going.

I have wanted to get published pretty much all of my life. But you know what? I used to wait for inspiration to come and then I just wrote all night. Big mistake, I know. Especially since I was in high school at the time and would sometimes write on a school night!

I would love to say that worked. Not surprisingly, it didn’t. After high school, I started listening to a writing podcast and really started wanting to write seriously. I really started in May of 2014. It’s crazy to think how fast time has gone by. I don’t feel like I’ve been writing for over a year, and now I’m just waiting on the money to be able to get the manuscript edited one last time!

It’s been almost a year since I first finished that manuscript… It’s crazy to think about.

I don’t know how time slips by us all, but it sure does. I’d be willing to bet that all of you think so, too!

The Road to Being Published

After more than a month, this series is finally returning. How sad is it that I had to look at the name of another post to make sure I had it right? I love these. 🙂

Days of the Kill is unfortunately still on hold. I’ve been looking at it more, though, so maybe the editor won’t have quite as much to rip apart… Oh, and I’m only about $400 away from my goal. Two more paychecks it is. 🙂

The Path to Biological is going fairly well. I’m still on the third draft. Editing has slowed down quite a bit, but maybe I’ll be picking it up again soon. I hope so, anyway!

The Child of Fault is slow-going. I’m on the second draft. There’s a lot of things happening in that book, and…wow. I have a lot to work on in that book. Of course, I have a lot to work on with any first draft I create.

Bethany’s Corpse is going really well. I have finally finished the first draft! So proud of myself. Now, I need to take a month off of that and really focus on other things. I’ve been so focused on getting this one done I haven’t left time for anything else!

I’m so happy with how much I’ve done in the time that we’ve been apart, but really I missed this series. I’m so glad to be getting back to it.

Well, I guess that’s it for this week. Until next week…stay tuned!

The Money is Coming

I’m so sorry for not posting for over a month, everyone! I’ve been swamped with school things and getting ready for vacation. And then, of course, there was the actual vacation… Anyway, I’m back to the real world and hopefully, back to posting regularly.

If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you know that I’ve been saving up money for an editor. It’s been a slow, tedious process, but it’s finally getting close. After all these months, I may be able to finally change what I say on Wednesday’s about Days of the Kill.

I was on vacation for two weeks. I missed an entire pay period, and I don’t get paid time off. But you know what? I was looking at the bank the other day, and as it turns out, I got paid for my vacation time anyway. Say what? Mind you, I’m not complaining. It was a nice surprise.

I’m so excited. I’m just over $300 short of what I need for the editor. One or two more paychecks should cover that. I’ll finally be able to say that Days of the Kill is with the editor instead of it being on hold! I’m so glad that I’m able to do that. I’m sure everyone is tiring of seeing the same thing over and over again.

Guys, maybe you’re like me and you’ve been saving up for an editor for months and months at a time. I know, it gets really tiring. But don’t despair: I know from experience that the money does come. Just keep looking toward your goal.
