So I’ve Been Thinking…

Duck and cover, everyone! My brain is on the run again!

Now on to the serious part…

For the past week, I’ve been giving a lot of thought to the future. If you’ve been reading my posts for a long time, you know I am a caregiver to a special needs child.

While I love the job I have, I want to do something more with my life. Something big. Something that can show the world who I am, but also to help improve it.

I had the opportunity to go to San Antonio to meet my editor, mentor, and very dear friend, Lisa James, last Saturday. She mentioned something to me about public speaking, and at first I thought that would never happen, because I would be terrified to speak in front of a big crowd. Then I gave it some more thought… Why shouldn’t I? I can make a difference in the world.

A lot of you may not know this, but Days of the Kill is so much more than just an entertaining murder mystery. It was actually a release for me. I had major anger issues. I was on the verge of actually breaking the law and spending the rest of my life in prison. I was that bad. Then I got the idea for this book… I took the idea and ran with it. I was so much happier after writing it. It’s amazing what writing can do.

Some of you may have seen my post a couple months back about getting out of a toxic relationship. I only wrote about one on here, but in reality, I’ve been in a string of them.

My goal is to be able to make enough royalties off of my book sales to be able to travel and speak out against toxic relationships. I want to be this motivational speaker that helps to make a difference in the world and speaks out against what has been such a taboo subject for far too long. I want to show people that you can bounce back, no matter how difficult it is.

I will always be a work in progress. I understand that. I will never be perfect, and that’s okay. It’s okay that nobody will ever be perfect.

This dream of motivational speaking is why I advertise my book. My experience is why I want to be able to travel and speak out against such a horrible thing.

My goal is to be able to start traveling and speaking in a year or two, and I would love to be able to get there. If you enjoy murder mysteries, and if you think this is something worth supporting, why not buy my book?: https://www.amazon.com/Days-Kill-S-Courtney-Killian/dp/0692673148/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469434865&sr=8-1&keywords=Days+of+the+Kill

Thank you for listening to me ramble on about my hopes and dreams for the future.

The Road to Being Published

Hello, everyone. I’m back this week to talk about how far I am in getting published. Well…published again, I should say. Because as you know, Days of the Kill is on Amazon. Go look it up!

Somebody remind me to get a “bookstore” tab on here one of these days… Seriously, it’s been out almost a month.

Anyway, I’m really proud of how far I’ve gotten. It’s been a lot of fun to look at the progress I can make in one week! Or as you all know, two weeks.

The Path to Biological is going so much faster now! I finished the handwritten draft (finally!) and now I’m typing it up. I got over 11,000 words in one day. How awesome is that? Now, I’m at just over 16,000. I’m also on Chapter 30 already. There’s 71. I’d say I have a pretty good head start on it, especially considering the slow pace of a realistic goal I had. It turns out I really didn’t need to worry about that. Go figure.

The Child of Fault is still on hold, although it shouldn’t be for much longer. If I keep going at the pace I’m going, I should be back to it in just a few weeks. Yay!

Bethany’s Corpse is still on hold as well. I hope it’s not for too much longer, because let’s be honest, I love this book. It’s probably my favorite one to work on. I don’t even know how to express my love for this (I’m picking favorites with my book children now…I’m that mother. Whoops).

Do You Remember Me is still on hold as well. I’ve been on the first draft for pretty much forever, but hey, at least I’m making progress somewhere, which is more than I could say about myself for a while. And let me tell you, this is going to need a lot of revisions. This is such a different style than I’m used to writing!

Living Through Abuse is still on hold as well. Just like Do You Remember Me, it’s going to need a lot of revisions once I finally finish the first draft. It may be weird because it’s a nonfiction book, but as every nonfiction author knows, even those need a lot of help sometimes.

I also have very exciting news. I’m going to be a part of a compilation book called From Surviving To Thriving. It’s all about experiences in abusive relationships, and I’m so excited to be a part of it. It’s set to release in October of 2016. I will let you all know more about it as it comes!

I believe that’s it for this week. Next week, I hope to have even more exciting news to share! Until then…stay tuned!

Promotion: Joys and Woes

If you read my post on Wednesday, you know I have just published a book. (Days of the Kill. It’s on Amazon. Look it up. It’s awesome.).

Promotion is dang hard. Unfortunately, the fantasy we all have at one point or another that the publisher will do all the promotion or people will just magically find the book and we’ll all become rich and famous just isn’t true. That’s on you, people. Play your cards right, and you may just have a runaway best-seller.

Okay, so it’s not likely, but it’s possible.

Tomorrow will mark two weeks since I’ve been a published author. I have to say, I’ve had really positive feedback. I let people know about it, and people reacted. Boy, did people react.

People I haven’t talked to in forever liked my Facebook post. People that I haven’t talked to in a while said they bought it and want it signed. Heck, someone I never even talked to before bought the ebook and loved it!

I also have two reviews on Amazon. Two amazing reviews. And I am so happy about those reviews.

But wait, there’s more. There is another part to this. In come the woes to ruin a few things.

Things can happen. A family emergency comes up (yup, just had that happen), a friend is in trouble, or any number of things can come up out of the blue. Promotion tends to be the furthest thing on your mind when that happens.

My family emergency happened about a week after I published. I had said something on social media maybe once or twice before it happened. One week later, I’ve said something once since the whole family emergency thing. Yay me.

Things will happen that promotion will be put on hold for. But if you think about it, why not make a quick post on social media about your book? You might just be surprised.

I’ve Done It

I realize it’s Wednesday, and you’re expecting more on my journey to being published. That’s not going to happen today. Instead, I have some very exciting news to share: As of yesterday, I am now a published author.

Days of the Kill is my first book. It was nearly two years in the making. I’ve complained on here about it. I’ve rejoiced on here about it. Now, the book is available to you, my friends and readers.

In this tale of murder and mystery, a small town girl moves to Oregon to start a new life away from her dysfunctional family. However, after she takes a teaching job she realizes to her horror she had not really escaped the dysfunctional members of her family. As the body count rises she has to face the fact that she is dysfunctional, too. Are any of us really who we appear to be?

The Road to Being Published

Hey all, sorry once again for not getting a post up on Monday. I spent the day recovering from my nephew’s and niece’s birthday party. More on that in a few days…

For now, it’s time for my weekly review of how far I’ve come this week. I love these. 🙂

Days of the Kill is still not on pre-order, but should be getting there soon. I have yet to see the cover, but it should be done soon, and I look forward to seeing it. My publisher has informed me that the book is set to be released the week of March 14, hopefully that day. So yay!

The Path to Biological is still going slowly. I managed to finish handwriting chapter 48, but haven’t done anything since then. There’s like 70-something chapters… So I still have a ways to go, but I’m working on it.

The Child of Fault is still on hold, which I’m hoping will change fairly soon. I enjoy that one, and I’m itching to get back to it. But I have other priorities first, so I focus on what I need to.

Bethany’s Corpse is still on hold as well. There’s a line of books in front of it, and I hope to get that done soon. It’ll take a few weeks, but hang in there with me. I’m working my way towards it.

Do You Remember Me is mostly on hold, and I’m still at about 18,000 words because I didn’t get to participate in the sprint last week. Bummer, but I’m hoping I get to do that tonight. I like sprinting with new words. 🙂

Living Through Abuse is on hold as well, but I plan on sprinting with it as soon as I’m done with the first draft of Do You Remember Me. I’m hoping we can keep up the sprints for a long time.

I didn’t get a lot done this week, but some is better than none. I’m hoping to get even more done next week!

Until then…stay tuned!

The Road to Being Published

I was planning on getting a post up on Monday, but of course, that didn’t happen. Oh, well. As long as I get to do this. I love this even if it doesn’t bring up very positive results. 🙂

I really didn’t get a lot done this week. I briefly wondered if it was even worth posting. I figured it was, since I still love doing this.

Days of the Kill is done. I’m still waiting to see the pre-order available, and I don’t know when that will be. I will be sure to let everyone know as soon as I can.

The Path to Biological is still being hand-written, and I’m still on chapter 40-something. I’m not positive how many chapters in I am for sure, but I’ll try to make sure I know for next week, and hopefully that will bring more positive results than lately.

The Child of Fault is still on hold because The Path to Biological is my main focus right now. I will definitely focus on this when I can. It’ll more than likely be when the other one is with a couple more beta readers that I have in mind. Not a huge formal beta reading thing, just a couple friends to look over it one more time. 🙂

Bethany’s Corpse is still on hold as well. I will work on that once The Child of Fault is with beta readers (whenever that is… I have no idea.). I’m hoping it’s soon. I enjoy that manuscript.

Do You Remember Me is going slowly. For the most part, it is on hold, but I work on that whenever I do a sprint with my Writing Accountability Group. I’m about 18,000 words in, I believe.

Living Through Abuse is on hold for now as well. Once I finish the first draft of Do You Remember Me through sprints, this will be the next one in line for that. It won’t be this week, but I’m hoping I can do another one next week.

I think that’s all for this week. It wasn’t much, but at least I did a little. Hopefully more next week.

Until next week…stay tuned!

The Road to Being Published

I’m finally getting back to doing the usual Wednesday thing of letting people know how far I’ve come in my journey to getting published. Man, I’ve missed these. 🙂

I’m kind of psyched about how far I’ve come since the last time I did this. I’m really excited to see how far things go!

Days of the Kill is days away from being available for pre-order! At least I hope. My publisher said that it should be a week to a week and a half until it is available, and that was a week ago today. But she was also waiting on a couple of things. So we’ll see. This is exciting. 🙂

The Path to Biological is going well. I’m in the fifth draft. Yeah. The fifth. Unfortunately, I’m handwriting it so it’s slow going. I’m changing it from first person to third. Yay. Fun task. I have like 30-something chapters to go. Thankfully they’re short!

The Child of Fault has been kind of on hold since The Path to Biological is my main focus, but I’m please with how it’s doing. I’m on the third draft, so it’s not too bad. But hopefully I can get back to it soon. 🙂

Bethany’s Corpse is going well. It’s kind of been on hold as well, but I’m still please with the progress. That’s on the third draft as well, so hopefully I’ll be able to get back to that pretty soon as well.

Since I’ve posted, I started on another one, Do You Remember Me. It has just over 17,000 words, and doing really well. I admit, it was originally for NaNoWriMo. Yeah, I totally failed. Oh, well. Life happens. This is kind of on hold as well as the others, but I usually work on it when my Writing Accountability Group has a sprint. So that’s always fun. 🙂

I have also started on another book, Living Through Abuse. That one is slow-going, but it’s also on hold, like the others. I’m trying to force myself to edit more than write new words currently, but once the first draft of Do You Remember Me is done, I’ll probably work on this during the sprints. 🙂

I’ve come so far, and I’m so happy with it! I’m hoping I can keep doing this well!

The Road to Being Published

Hey all, sorry for not getting a post up on Monday. Somehow that fact that it was Monday escaped me…

For now, it’s Wednesday, so it’s time to look at how far I am with being published.

I haven’t really done a lot this week. Handwriting a draft tends to slow everything down.

Days of the Kill is still with the editor. I don’t know how much longer she’ll have it, but I plan on asking her here in the next couple days if I hadn’t heard from her by then. My guess is by the first of November (wow, it’s almost November. Can you guys believe it? Where has 2015 gone?).

The Path to Biological is going slowly. I’m handwriting the current draft, but I know it will go a lot faster once I get past the handwriting part. Currently I have 126 pages to go… Quite a lot when you think about handwriting all of that!

The Child of Fault is on hold currently. It’s not a priority to me at the moment. It will be, though. I finished the second draft not too long ago and so I can afford to take a little break from it.

Bethany’s Corpse is also currently on hold. I finished the second draft of that not too long ago as well, so I’m taking a small break from it. It’s time to focus on other things.

Next week, I will be adding another book to this. Starting NaNoWriMo is just right around the corner! See you guys next week!

The Road to Being Published

It’s Wednesday, so it’s time to look at where I am in my journey of being published. Man, I’ve missed this.

Days of the Kill is still with the editor. I don’t know exactly how much longer it will be, but I know she’s getting close to done. I’m trying to not ask her too many times how much longer. I don’t want to be known as “that” client! I know it’s close, though. So close, I can almost feel it. I guess I should go ahead and type out the acknowledgements the first chance I get so that’s ready to go.

The Path to Biological is going slowly. I just started working on revising from beta readers. Man, it’s going to take a major overhaul. I never knew just how hard changing a book from first person to third person would actually be! It has to be done, though. Oh, well.

The Child of Fault is okay, I guess, though on hold currently. I finished the second draft, so that’s good. It still has a long way to go before the beta readers see it, but I have no doubt that I can get it there, whenever that may be.

Bethany’s Corpse is on hold as well currently. I finished the second draft not too long ago, though! There’s still a lot wrong with it, and I’m certain I have certain things mixed up in the story, but I’m working on it. I have no doubt that I’ll get there.

I’m so excited about the way things are going. One of these days I’m going to tell you I’m published. I’m getting there, I tell you!

I guess that’s it for this week. Until next week…stay tuned!

The Road to Being Published

It’s Wednesday, so it’s time again to look at my progress with being published. I always look forward to these. 🙂

I’ve gotten quite a bit done this week! I’m so excited about my progress, and quite proud of how far I’ve come.

Days of the Kill won’t be on hold for much longer. I know, I keep saying that, but it’s so true. The editor is supposed to get with me today or tomorrow and say that she’s ready for the manuscript. Here’s to hoping that it doesn’t take too much more editing!

The Path to Biological is officially off with the beta readers. I’m so excited. The waiting game begins with them. I’m so looking forward to getting back opinions. I just sent it out a few days ago, but it seems like forever ago!

The Child of Fault is officially in progress. I’m on the second draft. I’m having to change quite a bit, but I guess that’s why it’s called a draft. It’s so tedious. But I am so glad that it’s going somewhat smoothly.

Bethany’s Corpse is still on hold. It probably will be for a little while longer. I don’t know how long exactly, but I will get to it eventually. I promise.

I’ve made so much progress this week! I hope to have even more to report next week. Until then…stay tuned!
