The Road to Being Published

I’m sorry I didn’t get my NaNoWriMo post up on Monday. I had my eyes dilated due to glaucoma testing and I couldn’t see a thing! I finished the project last night, though. Yay!

I was right last week. I said that maybe, just maybe, I would be on the third draft by this week. And guess what? I am! I’m so excited about it. I have the second draft printed out, and now I’m slaving over it with a pen. I’m attacking it before I let any other eyes see it… This will hopefully go out to a friend of mine once I’m done with it before I let beta readers have at it.

I’m so excited to be on the third draft. This will probably be one of the drafts it takes longer for since I’m going through it with a pen and then going to have to type it up. That will take a while, I’m ready for it, though.

I’m still on the first chapter, since I just started last night. I’m slowly working on it. Now that I’m done with my NaNoWriMo project, and that’s being put away for a month, I can dedicate my time on Days of the Kill. I’m so excited about that. Who would’ve thought I would get this close?

I know I’m not anywhere close to being published yet, but I can guarantee that I’m getting closer everyday. I can’t wait to see what happens. I’m looking forward to getting it done!

The thought that this will soon leave my hands and I let someone else see it terrifies me. Yet, at the same time, it’s exciting. This is my baby, and I’ll be letting it go out in the world.

As I said earlier, I finished my NaNoWriMo project last night. My first NaNoWriMo was a success. I’ll be putting it aside for a month, but when I let myself look at it again, I’ll be ready to tackle the horribly written draft. Bring it on, The Healing.

I can’t believe I’m getting closer and closer. Third draft…just like a real writer.

Well, that’s it for this week. Until next week… Stay tuned!

The Road to Being Published

Well, I guess I’ll just keep the series consistent. Yes, I’m still trying to get published. I’m not past the second draft yet. What a drag. I’m still working on it. I’m almost done with editing the first chapter! I’ll be glad to be done with that much for the second draft, anyway.

I’ll be honest, editing isn’t easy. I hate going through it. I’ve been changing entire scenes, even. It’s hard to know exactly how much you’ve edited when you’re changing entire scenes. It’s annoying, believe me.

I started a very obvious relationship in the book sooner than I wanted to, but I guess the characters decided they had to start dating in the first chapter instead of the third. That’s just the way it goes, I guess. It’s annoying, but that’s what I’m having to deal with. These characters have a mind of their own, so they don’t always go along with what you say. You never know what can they’re going to do.

Working on this has really given me an appreciation for what all authors have gone through. It can be frustrating, no doubt. I can only hope to be at least semi-successful. Of course, I wouldn’t mind reaching the best-seller’s list at least once in my life!

I will keep you all updated. It’s slow-going, but when I talk about this next week, I should be at least in the second chapter. I’ll let you guys know. Be sure to follow me on Twitter (@SCourtney94) if you want to be updated on it throughout the week. I’ll be talking about it there!

See you guys next week. Until then… 33/171 pages done.
