Five Years Later

You know how people are always saying time goes by really fast? Well, it does. It only seems to go by faster every year.

I believe that’s especially true when kids are involved.

Over the weekend, we celebrated my niece’s fifth birthday. Her actual birthday was yesterday. I can’t believe she’s already five. I still remember the day I met her when she was just thirteen days old.

Sophia 13 days

It’s crazy to think she’s not that tiny baby that was just an armful anymore. I can’t believe how much time has passed by!

In the past five years, she has grown into a happy, energetic little girl who’s favorite color is pink, favorite thing is My Little Pony, and firmly believes she is a princess.

We celebrated her birthday on Saturday with a My Little Pony themed bowling party. It was a bit chaotic with a bunch of preschoolers trying to bowl, but it was also a lot of fun! Sophia was a bit disappointed when she found she had to take turns, but she was so excited to get started.

As is true with any kid, it’s not always easy. It can be really hard get along with her sometimes when she’s not behaving, but I wouldn’t change it for anything.

Happy Belated Birthday, Sophia. I will always and forever love you!

Time Flies By

Hey all, I apologize for not posting at all last week. I was insanely busy.

I was just realizing how fast time goes by. My niece turns five in just two months. But I guess that wasn’t the main focus on my thoughts about how fast time is going.

I have wanted to get published pretty much all of my life. But you know what? I used to wait for inspiration to come and then I just wrote all night. Big mistake, I know. Especially since I was in high school at the time and would sometimes write on a school night!

I would love to say that worked. Not surprisingly, it didn’t. After high school, I started listening to a writing podcast and really started wanting to write seriously. I really started in May of 2014. It’s crazy to think how fast time has gone by. I don’t feel like I’ve been writing for over a year, and now I’m just waiting on the money to be able to get the manuscript edited one last time!

It’s been almost a year since I first finished that manuscript… It’s crazy to think about.

I don’t know how time slips by us all, but it sure does. I’d be willing to bet that all of you think so, too!

The Road to Being Published

It’s Wednesday, so it’s time for another update.

I’ve done so much this week! I’m getting a lot better at this whole commitment thing. 🙂

Days of the Kill is still on hold, unfortunately. I can fix the pages some, and I can edit the first two pages based off of the free sample edits, but…meh. I’m still saving up to go further than the free sample.

The Path to Biological is going well. I’m getting so close to the end of the third draft! I’m not really looking forward to what’s waiting for me in the fourth draft, but…I guess I kind of asked for it when I picked such a difficult plot to write about during the month of November…you know what that means.

The Child of Fault is still on hold. I’m taking a month off from it so I can just get my mind away from it for a while. I still think of some of the things that I could have done better, but that’s what editing is for. I’ll take care of some of the more obvious things in the second draft.

Bethany’s Corpse is going really well! I have just over 11,000 words already. I don’t remember the last time I’ve gotten so far in just a short time. Well, except for maybe November.

Nah, not even then.

I’m really excited about how far I’ve come this week. Hopefully next week, I’ll have even more to report! We’ll see…my oldest niece is visiting this weekend. That may make writing a little difficult.

Well, I guess that’s about it for this week. Until then…stay tuned!

Two Years Later

I can’t believe it’s already been two years since you were born. It seems like just yesterday I was on the way to go see my sister in the hospital because she just gave birth to you.

I still remember when you were just a baby. It’s crazy to think that you’re already two years old. Just like your sister, you are growing up way too fast. Just watching and listening to you this weekend, it amazes me how much you’ve grown. You’re able to say words that I can actually understand now!

As it turns out, you’re a big fan of Barney… I found that out Saturday when I was trying to find a show that would prove as a distraction for you. Not to brag, but that was the best idea I’ve ever had!

I can’t believe how fast you’re growing. Before I know it, you’ll be in school, which will be while you’ll be in Hawaii. What better place to start school than while you’re in the land of paradise?

Happy Birthday, Kendra. I love you more than words can say.

The Road to Being Published

Before we start off, I would like to say that it’s been exactly one year since I started with WordPress! Not this site, but my other one. Crazy to think it’s been that long.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, it’s Wednesday, so it’s time for another update at how far along I am with my writing.

I admit, this week hasn’t been the greatest with writing. Seems like during the weekend, I was just absolutely drained and couldn’t motivate myself to write at all. Yesterday was like that, too.

Days of the Kill is on hold until I can afford the editor I want. I may look into another editor that I just followed on Twitter and see if his rates are any more affordable. Right now, I won’t be able to afford anyone, seeing as my bank account is in sad shape, but I’m trying to save money. Gosh darn e-books I see on sale are so tempting… Really need to not buy so many.

The Path to Biological is still going really slow. I haven’t had much of a chance to work on it at all! It seems like ever since I said would dedicate Saturdays to writing, I haven’t had a chance to. It gets really frustrating. Every Saturday is busy. Freaking ugh.

The Child of Fault is going…fairly well. Although I’ve discovered that when I finally get done with the first draft it’s going to need a major rewrite. I think this is the novel that has needed the biggest rewrite to date. I have almost 40,000 words, though. If I get to write this week more, I should get there.

Yet another Saturday is coming, and it’s another one where I won’t have a chance to write. That’s okay, though. Saturday is the day of my niece’s birthday party. I can’t believe she’s going to be two!

Well, I guess that’s all for this week. Hopefully next week I’ll be able to give better news about writing. Until then…stay tuned!

Being Productive With a Child

I don’t have children. However, I have a four-year-old niece. Well, I also have another niece and a nephew, but the four-year-old is the only one that comes to visit for the weekend. The other’s can wait until they’re two. My youngest niece is almost two.  My nephew is only a month and a half old. I forgot where I was going with this.

This past weekend, my four-year-old niece came to visit. Now, I always struggle to find time to write when she’s here. She’s extremely active, and it takes both my parents and I to reign her in sometimes. So, as a result, I didn’t get Saturday to write like I wanted to. Such a pain.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my niece, but sometimes, it’s frustrating when I don’t get things done that I would like to get done. I admire parents… Especially single parents.

Usually, I end up getting absolutely no writing done when my niece is here. It seems like there’s never any time. Well, this weekend, I found time, like I’ve been so big on ranting about lately. It was time to shape up and take my own damn advice.

So, I found time to write. In the middle of the night.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. I’m crazy to write in the middle of the night like that, right? I know you’re thinking that… Don’t deny it.

Let me guess. You’re too tired late at night. You need to get up early. Your kid wore you out. So what? You want to get that book published, don’t you? Well, the middle of the night or during nap time it is.

Okay, so I’m more talking about what belongs on my other site, but still. It’s annoying when people make excuses.

I can’t say that writing in the middle of the night is the best idea in the world, but sometimes, it’s necessary. I like sleep as much as the next person, but when you’re under a self-imposed deadline (or an actual deadline!) like I am, it’s kind of important to make some time for yourself…

So, when is the best time to write for you? Let me know in the comments!

Four Years

As I lay wide awake, I kept thinking about how fast time is flying by. Eventually, I just said, “Screw it all,” and turned on my laptop for the sole reason of writing this post.

It’s after midnight here in Texas. It’s October 11, 2014. It’s Sophia’s fourth birthday.

For those of you that don’t know, Sophia is my oldest niece. I first met her when she was just thirteen days old. I can’t believe she’s already four.

Sophia 13 daysSophia at just thirteen days old.

I won’t even pretend that everything is perfect. It’s not. Sometimes it’s very hard when she comes to visit.

Tonight is a perfect example.

We were at her birthday dinner tonight at Candlelight Inn, and she did everything but behave. When we were on the way home, she wouldn’t stop sticking her hand in my face. Now THAT got annoying.

Sophia 4 yearsTonight at her birthday dinner. Four years old!

It’s hard when she doesn’t behave. Sometimes I feel like I never want to see her again. That, however, isn’t true. At all.

Sophia, you turned my world inside out and upside down four years ago. I didn’t know what I was going to do when I heard my sister was pregnant with you. I never pictured myself becoming an aunt so soon.

We don’t always get along, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I never got along with your mother when we lived in the same house.

Happy Birthday, Sophia. I love you, and I always will.
