I’ve Done It

I realize it’s Wednesday, and you’re expecting more on my journey to being published. That’s not going to happen today. Instead, I have some very exciting news to share: As of yesterday, I am now a published author.

Days of the Kill is my first book. It was nearly two years in the making. I’ve complained on here about it. I’ve rejoiced on here about it. Now, the book is available to you, my friends and readers.

In this tale of murder and mystery, a small town girl moves to Oregon to start a new life away from her dysfunctional family. However, after she takes a teaching job she realizes to her horror she had not really escaped the dysfunctional members of her family. As the body count rises she has to face the fact that she is dysfunctional, too. Are any of us really who we appear to be?

The Road to Being Published

I’m finally getting back to doing the usual Wednesday thing of letting people know how far I’ve come in my journey to getting published. Man, I’ve missed these. 🙂

I’m kind of psyched about how far I’ve come since the last time I did this. I’m really excited to see how far things go!

Days of the Kill is days away from being available for pre-order! At least I hope. My publisher said that it should be a week to a week and a half until it is available, and that was a week ago today. But she was also waiting on a couple of things. So we’ll see. This is exciting. 🙂

The Path to Biological is going well. I’m in the fifth draft. Yeah. The fifth. Unfortunately, I’m handwriting it so it’s slow going. I’m changing it from first person to third. Yay. Fun task. I have like 30-something chapters to go. Thankfully they’re short!

The Child of Fault has been kind of on hold since The Path to Biological is my main focus, but I’m please with how it’s doing. I’m on the third draft, so it’s not too bad. But hopefully I can get back to it soon. 🙂

Bethany’s Corpse is going well. It’s kind of been on hold as well, but I’m still please with the progress. That’s on the third draft as well, so hopefully I’ll be able to get back to that pretty soon as well.

Since I’ve posted, I started on another one, Do You Remember Me. It has just over 17,000 words, and doing really well. I admit, it was originally for NaNoWriMo. Yeah, I totally failed. Oh, well. Life happens. This is kind of on hold as well as the others, but I usually work on it when my Writing Accountability Group has a sprint. So that’s always fun. 🙂

I have also started on another book, Living Through Abuse. That one is slow-going, but it’s also on hold, like the others. I’m trying to force myself to edit more than write new words currently, but once the first draft of Do You Remember Me is done, I’ll probably work on this during the sprints. 🙂

I’ve come so far, and I’m so happy with it! I’m hoping I can keep doing this well!

The Road to Being Published

It’s Wednesday, so time to take a look at how far I’m getting on being published.

I’ve done so much these past two weeks! Well, at least for one day. As for the other days, I can’t say too much.

Days of the Kill is still on hold due to money issues, but I’m thinking about going for a different editor. One I can actually kind of afford this time. I would have had to save up money for them, but I have to say that I do have the money for them now, so if I like the free sample, I’m definitely going for them.

The Path to Biological is going well. I edited 32 pages just the other day. It felt like I was running a marathon or something for two hours… Still, it was rewarding, and that means I’m just that much closer to beta reader hunting.

The Child of Fault is going slowly. I’m working on it some, but I haven’t put a lot of effort into it. I’m on the second draft, so there’s a lot to be done. Hopefully the next few drafts will be just a tiny bit faster.

Bethany’s Corpse is on hold still. I haven’t quite gone a month without looking at it, so I’m going to use that month up for all it’s worth. Hopefully I don’t go totally crazy from all the horrible mistakes in it!

If you’ve been following me for a while, you may know that I’ve been wanting to self-publish for a while. Well, today on my Facebook author page, there was the owner of an indie publishing company that contacted me and said that we could discuss options. This would be great for me, and I’m so happy that she messaged me. I don’t know if I will go for her publishing company or not, but I can say that I will definitely be giving her a call. I will be able to tell you more about that next week!

Until then…stay tuned!

The Road to Being Published

Another Wednesday, another update. I always look forward to these. 🙂

I’ve done pretty well with writing this week, I have to say. I’m not quite as far as I would like to be, but I’ve still done pretty well for barely having any of the weekend to write.

Days of the Kill is still with the editor. I thought I would be working on it by now, but I’m not. I don’t mind, though. She’s taking the time she needs, and I totally respect that. I’m glad she is. She’s still a fairly new copy-editor, but the work I’ve seen so far is absolutely amazing.

Something weird happened with The Path to Biological. It wouldn’t take me to the place that I stopped at, so I had to start over with the third draft. It was disappointing, but I’ll be alright. Maybe I’ll still reach my deadline anyway. Well, my self-imposed deadline. Really, it’s okay. I’ll get through some of that faster this time, and I have Saturday dedicated to writing, anyway. 🙂

I’ve done really well with The Child of Fault this week. I’m getting really close to having 30,000 words written. I found this spreadsheet on my Writing Accountability Group on Facebook, so now I’m forced to write at least that many words a day. But, I’m not complaining. It makes sure I write so I meet my deadline. I’m not going to complain about that!

I have now reached five videos for my vlog. I’ll be doing my sixth today. I got my first couple comments last night. They were mean ones, like, “Go kill yourself,” and “You’re a stupid bitch.” I hadn’t really thought about how I would react to the horrible comments that can happen, but I decided you know what? These people don’t even know me. They don’t know what I’m really like. Yes, I’m extremely awkward and maybe not the most comfortable in front of a camera, but I decided to do a vlog so I can maybe expand my audience. I’m not letting a few mean comments get in my way. And hey, even though they didn’t like it, they still took time to watch. And besides, it’s called The Awkward Writer for a reason. 🙂

Well, I guess that’s about it for this week. Hopefully I’ll have Days of the Kill back by next week. Until then…stay tuned!

The Road to Being Published

Guess what guys? The world must be ending!

Okay, now that I have your attention… It’s back to the regularly scheduled Road to Being Published. Man, I’ve missed this.

I am so close to finishing the fourth draft of Days of the Kill. I can’t believe I’m so close! I’ll be looking for beta readers soon. I’m getting anxious just thinking about it because I’m about to send my baby to the first few people that will ever see it!

I’m excited about how far I’ve come. I let a lot of things get in the way of my writing, but it feels really good to be back on a serious schedule.

Well, maybe not a normal schedule, but writing every day no matter what. That sort of thing.

I’m about to start editing The Path to Biological. I know I said I would before, but now I’m actually planning on it. I know, I know, promises, promises. Life happened. Hopefully it won’t this time.

I’m also about to start working on my third novel. I have no clue what it’s going to be called yet, but I can’t wait to get started on it! I’m working on my third novel before I even publish my first… Wow. What an achievement.

Speaking of publishing my first novel, I’m planning on self-publishing and am aiming to be hitting publish on July 8! I’m so excited. In less than six months from now, I could be a published author… Hopefully, my readers will enjoy it.

Well, I guess that’s all I have for this week. I have no idea what I’m going to write about on Monday, but until then… Stay tuned!

The Road to Being Published

I know, lately I’m just posting about NaNoWriMo and my journey as a writer. I’m sure there’s a post about something else inside of me somewhere. Bear with me. But for now, it’s Wednesday, so time for another update.

It’s been an incredible week. I loved all the progress I’ve made on editing Days of the Kill! I’m so happy. As it turns out, I didn’t get the third chapter done last Wednesday like I thought I would, but I’m happy to say that not only have I finished editing that, but I’ve also edited the entire fourth chapter! I’m currently working on the fifth, and just have a couple more pages until I’m done completely.

I’m so excited at how well this is going. I’ve been productive all week, and I’m so glad. It’s incredible to think about. I can’t believe I’m almost done with the second draft of my novel. I was just hoping to get done with the first draft by the end of the year!

I’m also currently working on my NaNoWriMo project still. I’m getting close to the end with that. That’s been more of a late night project. Except, you know, when I have to be up for work the next morning.

I can’t believe at how well everything has been going. I have never been so excited for anything in my life before. I’m looking forward to seeing what the week holds. I can’t wait to tell you next week how far I’ve come. This small town girl has done a lot.

Who knows? Maybe next week I’ll be telling you that I’m on the third draft. Now that would be something, wouldn’t it?

Until then… See you next week!

The Road to Being Published

Yet another Wednesday, so time for another update.

I’m so excited about how far I’ve come on Days of the Kill. I have my third chapter almost done with editing for the second draft. I’m pretty sure I can finish it tonight. I’ll have more time since my parents will be gone a little longer.

It sounds weird that my parents being gone is my reasoning for having longer to edit, but I do most of my editing Wednesday nights when they’re gone. I try to edit most days, but Monday and Wednesday I can’t stay up late since I have work the next morning. So, the only time I can get editing done on Wednesday is when my parents are gone that night.

I only do it at night because I have homework to do during the day. Let me tell you, balancing college and writing is not easy. It’s so worth it, though. I love it.

When I was in second grade, I got the award for Best Story Teller. That’s when I got the idea to be a writer. Typical, right? I started long ago, just like a lot of writers do.

I can’t believe how far I’ve come. My first novel completely flopped, so this is the first time I’ve ever gone through the editing process. It’s so exciting to think that I’m going to be published one day. I know I can get there. I just have to keep believing in myself.

I know I can finish the third chapter tonight on Days of the Kill. I just know I can. I don’t think it will take that long, either. I’m also working on The Healing for my NaNoWriMo project still. I’m almost halfway done with that! Tune in Monday for more details…

Thank you all so much for your continued support. It means so much to me that you always support me in my writing career. See you guys next Wednesday for another update, and make sure to check out my journey as a first-time NaNoWriMo participant on Monday.

The Road to Being Published

Another Wednesday, another update.

I guess not much has really changed. I’m still getting closer every day to being done with my second draft of Days of The Kill. I’m getting close to being done with the second chapter. I hope to be working on the third chapter by next Wednesday.

I actually got done with chapter one later on in the day after I posted last week. Maybe it will be the same with this week. Who knows? I’m getting closer to getting to the shorter chapters. Maybe then it’ll seem to go a little more quickly.

It seems to be moving slow for me right now, but in reality, it’s actually moving pretty fast. We’re five days into November, and I’ve already done 22 pages worth of editing this month! Talk about progress. I’m looking forward to seeing how far I can get before December.

Along with editing Days of the Kill, I have also decided to participate in National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo. My second novel will be called The Healing. I’m trying to do 50/50 with both, but right now The Healing is kind of a priority since I’m trying to get it done in a month. Don’t worry, in December, it will be back to really buckling down on editing Days of the Kill!

I’m excited to see how well I can do as a published author, and I’m really excited to see the finished project of Days of the Kill. This is farther than I ever imagined I would get. It’s also a lot more work than I thought it would be! (Keep in mind, I was just seven years old when I decided I was going to write a book…)

I can’t thank you all enough for your support. For those of you liking my posts, thank you. I wouldn’t have kept going for this long if I thought nobody was supporting me. It’s good to know there is support coming from unknown places.

Your support is the reason I keep you updated. Thank you, everyone.

The Road to Being Published

Well, I guess I’ll just keep the series consistent. Yes, I’m still trying to get published. I’m not past the second draft yet. What a drag. I’m still working on it. I’m almost done with editing the first chapter! I’ll be glad to be done with that much for the second draft, anyway.

I’ll be honest, editing isn’t easy. I hate going through it. I’ve been changing entire scenes, even. It’s hard to know exactly how much you’ve edited when you’re changing entire scenes. It’s annoying, believe me.

I started a very obvious relationship in the book sooner than I wanted to, but I guess the characters decided they had to start dating in the first chapter instead of the third. That’s just the way it goes, I guess. It’s annoying, but that’s what I’m having to deal with. These characters have a mind of their own, so they don’t always go along with what you say. You never know what can they’re going to do.

Working on this has really given me an appreciation for what all authors have gone through. It can be frustrating, no doubt. I can only hope to be at least semi-successful. Of course, I wouldn’t mind reaching the best-seller’s list at least once in my life!

I will keep you all updated. It’s slow-going, but when I talk about this next week, I should be at least in the second chapter. I’ll let you guys know. Be sure to follow me on Twitter (@SCourtney94) if you want to be updated on it throughout the week. I’ll be talking about it there!

See you guys next week. Until then… 33/171 pages done.
