Knowing When To Let Go

If you’ve been following me for a while, you may remember that I used to talk about starting up a podcast, and the frustrations I was having with that. Well, you might have figured that I dropped that idea since I haven’t talked about it in a while.

I’ve still been thinking about it some, but not as much as I was. I asked a guy that I’ve gotten to know on Twitter, but he never really committed one way or the other, so I decided he was my last resort and so I decided to drop the idea once and for all. For now, at least.

Then, for a while, I had a vlog. It was very successful, mind you. It was also one more thing to do when it really came down to it. I started out really excited about doing it, but then it became more of a nuisance than anything. So, since I was getting more negative feedback on it than anything, and I wasn’t really enjoying them, I decided to take that down, as well.

Sometimes, we all have to take a step back and wonder if what we’re doing is really worth it. I myself have wondered on multiple occasions if what I’m doing is worth it.

I’ve come to the conclusion that some things are more than worth it while other things aren’t worth it at all. It’s just a matter of what’s really important to you.

Follow your dreams. That’s the most important thing you can ever do.

The Road to Being Published

Another Wednesday, another update. I always look forward to these. 🙂

I’ve done pretty well with writing this week, I have to say. I’m not quite as far as I would like to be, but I’ve still done pretty well for barely having any of the weekend to write.

Days of the Kill is still with the editor. I thought I would be working on it by now, but I’m not. I don’t mind, though. She’s taking the time she needs, and I totally respect that. I’m glad she is. She’s still a fairly new copy-editor, but the work I’ve seen so far is absolutely amazing.

Something weird happened with The Path to Biological. It wouldn’t take me to the place that I stopped at, so I had to start over with the third draft. It was disappointing, but I’ll be alright. Maybe I’ll still reach my deadline anyway. Well, my self-imposed deadline. Really, it’s okay. I’ll get through some of that faster this time, and I have Saturday dedicated to writing, anyway. 🙂

I’ve done really well with The Child of Fault this week. I’m getting really close to having 30,000 words written. I found this spreadsheet on my Writing Accountability Group on Facebook, so now I’m forced to write at least that many words a day. But, I’m not complaining. It makes sure I write so I meet my deadline. I’m not going to complain about that!

I have now reached five videos for my vlog. I’ll be doing my sixth today. I got my first couple comments last night. They were mean ones, like, “Go kill yourself,” and “You’re a stupid bitch.” I hadn’t really thought about how I would react to the horrible comments that can happen, but I decided you know what? These people don’t even know me. They don’t know what I’m really like. Yes, I’m extremely awkward and maybe not the most comfortable in front of a camera, but I decided to do a vlog so I can maybe expand my audience. I’m not letting a few mean comments get in my way. And hey, even though they didn’t like it, they still took time to watch. And besides, it’s called The Awkward Writer for a reason. 🙂

Well, I guess that’s about it for this week. Hopefully I’ll have Days of the Kill back by next week. Until then…stay tuned!

The Road to Being Published

I’m sorry for not getting a post up on Monday. Well, not really. I was out of town meeting my baby nephew and taking care of my nieces while my sister was in the hospital.

I admit, I’ve barely done any writing this week. I haven’t had a chance. I’ve barely been able to keep my head above water with school and work. And that was before going out of town. Things have been chaotic, let me tell you.

I haven’t heard anything else from my beta readers for Days of the Kill. They have twelve days… They had better get back to me. Oh, I guess my anxiety is getting back up again. Moving on now…

The Path to Biological is getting harder and harder to edit. I’m starting to notice more and more plot changes. Once I get to the third draft, it will be a little bit easier, I hope. I’m not sure how much easier, exactly, but easier. At least I’ll be done with trying to make the beginning of the story the same plot as the end. I’ve already seen one thing that I’m going to have to change…

The Child of Fault is coming along fairly well. I have a little over 10,000 words. I was hoping to get there last week. Instead, I  got there this week. Oh, well. Things happen. Life happens. Maybe I’ll get about 10,000 words in this week. Or not, since my laptop is at my sister’s place. I managed to forget it. Joy.

I’m not too thrilled with the fact that I haven’t done much, but things happen. Meeting my nephew was a happy occasion. Taking care of my nieces was a chore, but still fun. Sometimes.

I won’t be doing a vlog this week due to not having my laptop, but I’ll get back to it next week. I’m looking forward to getting back to it. Wednesdays are fun for me. Most of the time. Check out my other two. The link to my YouTube channel is on my contact page. 🙂

Here’s to hoping to a better week writing-wise!

The Road to Being Published

Another Wednesday, another update.

I have to admit, this week wasn’t the greatest writing wise. It seems I let a week slip by and didn’t get a lot of writing done. Shame on me, I know.

Days of the Kill is still with the beta readers. I don’t get that back until February 23. I can’t wait to get it back! I’ve gotten feedback from a couple people. A good friend of mine said that it was a page-turner, and another friend basically said the beginning is complete shit and I need to change it. Believe it or not, I actually appreciate both. I haven’t heard back from the other six yet, but they still have nineteen days. 🙂

Editing The Path to Biological has been slow. It’s hard to edit a book that had the plot change so many times in the first draft. It’s not impossible, but difficult. I’m still working backwards on it. I believe I’m on page 150-something…

The Child of Fault is coming along fairly well. I was hoping to get to 10,000 words by today, but that didn’t happen. I have 8,555 words done. Still not bad, but I was hoping for more. Oh, well. Can’t have everything, I guess.

I started an author Facebook page a week ago today, and I’m so excited to already have 217 likes! Most of the people that have liked the page I don’t even know. I’m so excited about that. I have support coming from all around.

I’m also excited to announce that I have started a weekly vlog! Episode one is up on YouTube. I will be adding my YouTube channel to the contact page. I hope you all will check it out. I have to admit, 13 views for the first episode isn’t too bad.

I can’t wait to see how much I get done this next week. It might be less than this week, because I will be out of town from Sunday evening to Tuesday afternoon for the birth of my nephew. As a result, I may not get a post up on Monday.

I will see you guys next week! Until then…stay tuned!

Another Wednesday, another update. I’ve gotten to where I love these.

Days of the Kill is still with the beta readers. I haven’t gotten any feedback yet, so I’m still waiting on them. Hopefully, I’ll actually get some. Sometimes, I wonder… Oh, well, we’ll see where I’m at toward the end of February. That’s when I’m wanting it back by.

I just started really working on editing The Path to Biological. I’m ashamed to say I haven’t done much, but there were a few days when  I’ve felt extremely blah and didn’t feel like doing anything. You know how it is… We’ve all had those days. Don’t deny it. I’ve done the last couple of chapters, though. I’m working backwards since the plot changed so much. Two chapters down…several more to go.

The Child of Fault is coming along fairly well. I haven’t checked the word count the past couple times, but the last time I checked it was just over 5,000 words. Who knew I could come so far with just the little bit of time I use to write the first draft? The first draft is the easy part… I don’t even want to think about what the editing is going to look like yet. Oh, jeez.

Finally, I’m excited to announce that I am starting a vlog! I plan to do the first episode this afternoon. I’m so excited for you guys to actually see me and what I’m actually doing. you’ve all seen it written down, but I think it’s time you can actually hear it, too. I’m excited, and it will definitely expand my audience. I hope you guys are as excited about this as I am!

Last thing: This has become more of a writing blog than I originally intended. Most of my posts will still be about writing, but once in a while, it will be about other things. It may not just be on Monday and Wednesday, either sometimes. I definitely want to let you guys in on my personal life as well!
